$5 turned it into $650 in just 2 hours
$5 turned it into $650 in just 2 hours
In 2009, Stanford Professor Tina Seelig split her class into 14 teams, giving each team $5 and 2 hours to make as much ROI as possible. At the end, they were assigned to give a 3-minute presentation on their strategy.
The first team tried to buy items and flip them on the street for profit.
The second team realized the $5 was a distraction, so they made reservations at a restaurant and sold them to people who didn't wait in line.
Another team set up a stand in front of the student union and pumped-up bicycle tires for $1. But the winning team was even more creative. They didn't just realize the $5 was a distraction but also that there was a valuable asset hidden in the challenge—the presentation time.
This realization led to them reaching out to local companies offering the 3-minute slot as ad space.
After some negotiation, they closed a deal for $650.
